Frequently asked questions
- Does the recording need to be piano-only?
- No. You can upload a solo piano recording, or a full song with vocals, drums, or a whole band — we pull the piano part out first and transcribe that.
- How accurate is the transcription?
- It's strongest on a clean recording — playing straight into your phone's mic works well, or a mix where the piano isn't buried under everything else. A noisy live recording, a fast piece played with the pedal down the whole time, or a dense jazz or classical passage with a lot going on — those are genuinely harder, for any transcription, human or AI, and you may need to touch up the result by hand. We'd rather tell you that upfront than oversell it.
- What do I actually get back?
- Three formats, depending on what you're doing next: a PDF if you just want to print it and start playing, a MIDI file if you're dropping it into a DAW, or MusicXML if you want to keep editing the notation in MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale, or Dorico. All three are ready to download right on the page once processing finishes.
- How long does it take?
- Usually a couple of minutes from when you upload a recording — you'll see live progress on the page, then your files are ready to download immediately.
